Ingredients

  • 18 1/4 oz. yellow cake mix
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup melted butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups chopped dates
  • 2 cups chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix and brown sugar.
  2. Add melted butter and eggs; beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  3. Stir in the chopped dates and walnuts until well mixed.
  4. Spread the stiff batter into a greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.
  5. Bake at 350°F for 35 to 45 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
  6. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes.
  7. Run a knife around the sides of the pan to loosen the bars.
  8. Cool completely before cutting into bars.
