Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup sifted flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Grease and flour an 8-inch square pan.
  2. Stir together egg, brown sugar, and vanilla.
  3. Quickly stir in sifted flour, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add chopped pecans to the mixture.
  5. Spread the batter in the prepared pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 18 to 20 minutes until the center is soft.
  7. Remove from oven and do not overbake.
  8. Leave in the pan and cut into 2-inch squares.
