Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider using homemade chicken broth instead of canned. You can also substitute the margarine with butter for a more traditional taste. If you're looking for a lighter version, try using a rotisserie chicken. Be sure to let the pie cool for a few minutes before serving to allow the filling to set.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this Chicken Pie hot, garnished with fresh herbs for added flavor. It pairs beautifully with a simple side salad for a balanced meal. Additionally, consider serving with crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce. For a full dinner experience, serve alongside mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables.

Storage & Reheating

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place in the oven at 350°F until warmed through, about 20-25 minutes. Alternatively, you can microwave individual servings for 2-3 minutes, but the crust may lose some of its crispiness.

Can I use other types of chicken for this recipe?

Yes, you can use any cooked chicken, such as rotisserie or leftover grilled chicken. Just ensure it's shredded into bite-sized pieces for even distribution in the pie.

What can I substitute for buttermilk?

If you don't have buttermilk, you can make a substitute by mixing one cup of milk with one tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice. Let it sit for about 5 minutes before using.

How do I know when the pie is done baking?

The pie is done when the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling around the edges. You can also insert a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean if the pie is fully cooked.
