Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp. fat, melted
  • 3 lb. chili meat or hamburger
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. cumin seed (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp. paprika
  • 1/2 tsp. red pepper
  • 2 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 (No. 2) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 large onion, chopped fine
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper

Instructions

  1. Brown the chili meat or hamburger in melted fat.
  2. Add flour, cumin seed (if using), paprika, red pepper, and chili powder to the meat and cook briefly.
  3. Transfer the mixture into a large pot.
  4. Add crushed tomatoes, chopped onion, chopped garlic, black pepper, and enough water to cover the ingredients.
  5. Cook the chili slowly over low heat for 3 to 4 hours, stirring occasionally.
