Ingredients

  • 14 oz. package of caramels
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 package German Chocolate Cake mix
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 13 x 9-inch pan.
  2. Mix the caramels, milk, and margarine in a saucepan over low heat until melted, then set aside.
  3. Prepare the German Chocolate Cake mix according to the package instructions.
  4. Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven and spread the caramel mixture evenly over the hot cake.
  7. Sprinkle chopped pecans and chocolate chips over the caramel layer.
  8. Pour the remaining cake batter over the toppings.
  9. Bake at 250°F for 10 minutes, then increase the oven temperature to 350°F and bake for an additional 20 minutes.
