Chocolate Crown Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c. graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/3 c. melted butter
  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 stick butter (1/2 c.)
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar plus 4 Tbsp. sugar (for whipped topping)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/4 c. buttermilk
  • 1 pt. whipping cream
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  1. Melt 1/3
  2. cup
  3. chocolate chips;
  4. set aside.
  5. Grease and flour bottoms of 2 (9-inch) cake pans.
  6. Combine graham cracker crumbs and melted butter.
  7. Stir in walnuts and 2/3 cup chocolate chips; set
  8. aside.
  9. Combine
  10. flour,
  11. soda and
  12. salt; set aside.
  13. Cream butter, gradually
  14. add
  15. 1
  16. 1/2 cups sugar; cream well.
  17. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well. Blend in melted chocolate chips
  18. and vanilla.
  19. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk (starting
  20. and
  21. ending with dry ingredients). Pour 1/2 batter into
  22. each pan.
  23. Sprinkle with crumb mixture. Bake at 375° for
  24. 30 to 40 minutes.
  25. Cool.
  26. Wrap in wax paper and
  27. refrigerate.
  28. Mix whipping
  29. cream
  30. for
  31. approximately
  32. 2 minutes with 4 tablespoons sugar and put in between layers and on top of cake.
