- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add egg yolks and vanilla extract; beat until well blended.
- Gradually add self-rising flour and milk to the batter, mixing until smooth.
- Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form and gently fold into the batter.
- Take one-third of the batter and stir in chocolate syrup.
- Layer the batter in a greased tube or bundt pan: pour half of the white batter into the pan.
- Add the chocolate batter over the white batter.
- Pour in the remaining white batter on top.
- Bake at 300°F (150°C) for 1 1/2 hours until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool then turn out and dust with confectioners sugar.
