- Combine butter and chocolate in the top of a double boiler; bring water to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low and cook until the chocolate melts, stirring frequently.
- In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract; beat well.
- Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the sugar and eggs, mixing thoroughly.
- Stir in the flour, baking powder, and chopped pecans until just combined.
- Pour the batter into a greased or parchment-lined baking pan.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool before cutting into squares and serving.
