Ingredients

  • 16 oz. loaf cinnamon-raisin bread
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease a 3-quart baking dish.
  3. Cut bread slices in half diagonally.
  4. Arrange the bread slices in the baking dish so they overlap slightly.
  5. In a saucepan, heat milk and cocoa powder over medium-low heat until the cocoa is dissolved.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in heavy cream, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until blended.
  7. Pour the mixture over the bread and let stand for 15 minutes.
  8. Bake for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool completely on a wire rack.
  10. Sprinkle with confectioners sugar before serving.
  11. Serve when cool, approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes after baking.
