Ingredients

  • 1 German chocolate cake mix
  • 14 oz. Kraft caramels
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup Eagle Brand milk
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease and flour an oblong cake pan.
  3. Mix the German chocolate cake mix according to package instructions.
  4. Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan and bake for 15 minutes.
  5. While the cake is baking, unwrap the Kraft caramels and melt them together with butter and Eagle Brand milk on low heat until smooth.
  6. Remove the cake from the oven after 15 minutes.
  7. Pour the caramel mixture evenly over the partially baked cake.
  8. Sprinkle mini chocolate chips and chopped pecans over the caramel layer evenly.
  9. Spread the remaining cake batter over the toppings.
  10. Bake the cake for another 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the top layer comes out clean.
  11. Cool the cake for 1 hour before serving.
