Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons light corn syrup
  • 2 ounces melted chocolate
  • 2 1/2 cups walnuts, cut in large pieces
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Sift together the flour, salt, and sugar.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients except for the nuts.
  3. Beat the mixture vigorously for 200 strokes.
  4. Stir in the walnuts.
  5. Drop teaspoonfuls of the batter onto a greased cookie sheet, spacing them 1 inch apart.
  6. Bake at 350°F for 8 minutes.
  7. Let the cookies cool on the sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
