Ingredients

  • 2 cups lukewarm milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup soft shortening
  • 7 to 7 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • brown sugar
  • cinnamon
  • 1/2 can condensed or evaporated milk

Instructions

  1. Mix together the lukewarm milk, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Add the yeast to the mixture and let it activate.
  3. Stir in the beaten eggs and add the soft shortening.
  4. Gradually add the sifted flour, kneading until the dough is elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl and let it rise until double in size, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
  6. Punch down the dough and turn it over in the bowl. Let it rise again for about 30 to 45 minutes.
  7. Roll the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness and place on a cookie sheet.
  8. Let the dough rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Punch holes in the dough, but not all the way through.
  10. Sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon, and about half a can of condensed or evaporated milk.
  11. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
