Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups raisins
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp molasses
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Place raisins in 1/2 cup boiling water; cool.
  3. Drain raisins; reserve the water.
  4. Cream the shortening, sugar, and molasses.
  5. Sift flour, salt, soda, baking powder, and cinnamon together.
  6. Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture alternately with the reserved raisin water, mixing well.
  7. Fold in raisins and nuts.
  8. Spoon batter into 6 greased and floured soup cans.
  9. Bake for 30 minutes or until bread tests done.
