- Combine chopped walnuts or pecans, sugar, and cinnamon into a mixture.
- Take half of the dough.
- Roll the dough into an oblong shape and brush with melted margarine.
- Sprinkle the cinnamon-nut mixture over the dough.
- Roll the dough from the long side to form a log; seal the edges and shape into a circle on a greased baking sheet.
- Cut the ring into 1 1/2-inch intervals two-thirds of the way through and turn the cut sides on their sides.
- Cover the ring and let it rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
- Insert red or green cherries into the cuts before baking.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 to 25 minutes.
