Ingredients

  • 1 recipe for basic sweet dough
  • 1/4 cup melted margarine
  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • red or green cherries
  • powdered sugar frosting

Instructions

  1. Combine chopped walnuts or pecans, sugar, and cinnamon into a mixture.
  2. Take half of the dough.
  3. Roll the dough into an oblong shape and brush with melted margarine.
  4. Sprinkle the cinnamon-nut mixture over the dough.
  5. Roll the dough from the long side to form a log; seal the edges and shape into a circle on a greased baking sheet.
  6. Cut the ring into 1 1/2-inch intervals two-thirds of the way through and turn the cut sides on their sides.
  7. Cover the ring and let it rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
  8. Insert red or green cherries into the cuts before baking.
  9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 to 25 minutes.
