Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 3 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 5 Tbsp. cooking oil
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 cup cold water

Instructions

  1. Sift together flour, cocoa, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Make three shallow grooves in the dry mixture.
  3. Pour 5 Tbsp. cooking oil into one groove, 1 Tbsp. vinegar into another, and 1 Tbsp. vanilla into the third.
  4. Add 1 cup cold water to the remaining groove and pour it over the entire mixture.
  5. Beat the mixture with a spoon until it becomes nearly smooth and the flour is no longer visible.
  6. Grease a 9 x 9 x 2‑inch square cake pan and pour the batter into it.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
