Ingredients

  • buttermilk
  • sugar
  • vanilla extract
  • baking powder
  • shortening
  • baking soda
  • egg
  • all-purpose flour
  • cocoa powder
  • salt

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Generously grease and flour a 12-inch Bundt pan.
  3. In a large mixer bowl, blend together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add buttermilk, vanilla extract, shortening, and egg to the dry ingredients.
  5. Beat on low speed for 1 minute, scraping the bowl constantly.
  6. Increase to high speed and beat for 3 minutes, scraping the bowl occasionally.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared Bundt pan.
  8. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes.
  10. Remove from pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Drizzle with chocolate glaze before serving.
