Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/8 tsp. ginger
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1 large can evaporated milk
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Mix warm water, 1 tablespoon sugar, ginger, and yeast; let stand for 15 minutes.
  2. Add evaporated milk, 2 tablespoons sugar, oil, and salt.
  3. Beat in the flour one cup at a time.
  4. When the dough is too stiff to stir, work all of the flour in with your hands.
  5. Lay the dough on the countertop and divide it into 2 pieces.
  6. Shape the pieces and put them into 2 (1 pound) coffee cans that have been greased well.
  7. Let the dough rise until it is 1 1/2 to 2 inches above the top of the cans.
  8. Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove from cans and cool.
