- Cream together sugar and butter.
- Beat eggs and add to butter and sugar.
- Beat together.
- Sift together flour, soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk.
- Add orange rind, dates and pecans.
- Pour into tube pan that has been greased and floured.
- Bake at 325° for 1 1/2 hours or until cake tests done before removing from pan.
- While cake is still hot, punch holes in cake all the way to the bottom with ice pick.
- Glaze with orange juice and powdered sugar, mixed to thin consistency.
