Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup shortening or oleo
  • 2 1/4 cups brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup broken nuts
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate morsels

Instructions

  1. Melt the shortening in a large saucepan.
  2. Add brown sugar and mix well; cool slightly.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
  5. Add the flour mixture to the mixture in the saucepan; mix well.
  6. Add broken nuts and chocolate morsels.
  7. Pour into 2 greased pans (7 1/2 x 11 x 1 1/2).
  8. Bake at 325° to 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.
  9. When almost cool, cut into squares.
