Ingredients

  • 1 c. plain flour
  • 1 c. plain cornmeal
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 3 Tbsp. Crisco
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Combine dry ingredients: flour, cornmeal, sugar, salt, baking powder, and soda.
  2. Cut in shortening (Crisco) until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add buttermilk and blend well to form a batter.
  4. Pour batter into a hot, greased pan.
