Ingredients

  • 1 gallon apples
  • 6 to 8 cups sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • 4 cups vinegar
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon crushed ginger
  • 1 tablespoon whole allspice
  • 1/2 tablespoon whole cloves

Instructions

  1. Cook the water, vinegar, sugar, cinnamon stick, crushed ginger, whole allspice, and whole cloves in a pot until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is heated through.
  2. Add the apples to the simmering mixture and cook until they are tender.
  3. Allow the apples and syrup to stand for a couple of hours to absorb flavors.
  4. Pack the tender apples into sterilized jars.
  5. Heat the prepared syrup and pour it over the packed apples in the jars.
