Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla or 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 26 halves of walnuts or almonds

Instructions

  1. Blend shortening and sugar thoroughly.
  2. Add well-beaten egg and mix until smooth.
  3. Sift flour with salt; add to mixture, beating vigorously.
  4. Add vanilla or almond extract for flavor.
  5. Drop spoonfuls onto a lightly greased cookie sheet, about 3 to 4 inches apart.
  6. Place a walnut or almond half in the center of each cookie.
  7. Bake in a 350°F oven for 10 minutes.
