Ingredients

  • 1 package of yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Warm 1 cup of milk and 1/2 cup shortening until shortening melts, then set aside. Next, mix yeast with 1/2 cup warm water and 1 tsp sugar together and set aside. Beat eggs, 1/2 cup of sugar and salt together. Add milk mixture (it should be warm not hot) stir in flour until medium thick (like pancake batter). Add yeast mixture and blend well. Continue to add flour until dough does not stick to the bowl. Sprinkle with flour, cover with a towel and set in a warm (not hot) place to rise for about an hour. Punch down dough and cover bowl to let rise for another hour. When ready take out snowball size balls of dough and roll them out in a pie shape (round). Use a knife to cut triangular shapes (12-16 appx.), use a small brush to spread the melted butter onto each peice before rolling them up. Roll from the large end to the small, placing the small tip under on the baking pan. Don't place to close together, allow room for them to rise one more hour before baking. Bake at 350 for about 10 mins.
  2. After the rolls are taken out of the oven baste with melted butter (optional but tastes great).
  3. This same dough makes great cinnamon rolls.
  4. You can double this recipe very easily and make both.
