Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening with brown sugar.
  2. Beat in egg and molasses.
  3. Add dry ingredients: flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves.
  4. Make small balls of dough and press onto a cookie sheet with a glass dipped in sugar.
  5. Bake at 375°F for 12 to 15 minutes.
