Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/3 cup shortening or margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, sugar, cream of tartar, and baking powder.
  2. Cut in margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Mix in egg and milk, stirring just until moistened.
  4. Knead 10 times on a floured surface and pat to desired thickness.
  5. Cut with floured cutter and place on ungreased baking sheet.
  6. Bake at 425°F for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Alternatively, bake in an ungreased frying pan over low heat on charcoal or gas grill.
