Ingredients

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 6 candied cherries, cut up
  • 1 package (8 oz.) dates, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. In a heavy saucepan, mix the sugar and milk together.
  2. Bring to a boil. Add candied cherries and chopped dates.
  3. Continue to cook slowly until a firm ball is formed when a small amount of the candy is dropped into cold water.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in butter.
  5. Set the pan in a larger pan of cold water until mixture is almost cold. Beat until creamy and thick.
  6. Add chopped pecans.
  7. Spoon the thick mixture onto a clean, slightly damp cloth.
  8. Form into a long roll, approximately 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter.
  9. With the mixture still wrapped in the cloth, refrigerate until firm enough to slice.
