Ingredients

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 pound cut-up dates
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Sift together the flour, salt, sugar, soda, and cream of tartar.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs.
  3. Add the melted butter and milk to the eggs and mix well.
  4. Combine the liquid mixture with the dry ingredients using a few strokes until just blended.
  5. Fold in the chopped dates.
  6. Pour the batter into greased baking pans or shape into buns and place on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Remove from oven, let cool slightly, then serve.
