Date-Nut-Filled Cake

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round layer pans.
- Prepare, bake, and cool the cake as directed on the package.
- For the filling and frosting, put dates, boiling water, margarine or butter, into a heavy saucepan.
- Cook, stirring constantly, over medium heat until the mixture thickens, about 8 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in chopped pecans.
- Cool the date-nut mixture.
- Spread the cooled mixture between the cooled layers, on the sides, and on top of the cake.
- Chill the assembled cake before serving.
