Date Triangles

Ingredients

  • 6 oz. chopped dates
  • 1/8 to 1/4 pt. water
  • 3 oz. brown sugar
  • 5 oz. melted margarine
  • 2 oz. chopped walnuts
  • 8 oz. flour (all-purpose or whole wheat)
  • 4 oz. breakfast oats

Instructions

  1. Grease 7-inch square shallow baking pan.
  2. Place dates, walnuts and water in a saucepan and cook gently until soft enough to spread.
  3. Place oats, flour and sugar in a bowl and add margarine. Mix until fat is absorbed.
  4. Put half the cookie mixture into the pan and press well down.
  5. Cover with the date mixture.
  6. Cover with reserved half of cookie mixture, crumble if desired.
  7. Bake for 55 minutes in a 350° oven.
  8. When cool, cut into triangles.
