Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 3/4 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

Instructions

  1. Sift dry ingredients together: flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. Mix beaten egg and milk and add to the dry ingredients.
  3. Beat until smooth. Add more milk if the batter is too thick.
  4. Fill a pan with 1-inch oil and heat to frying temperature.
  5. Hold your finger over the bottom of a funnel.
  6. Pour about 1/4 cup of batter into the funnel.
  7. Remove your finger and let the batter drop in a spiral motion into the hot oil.
  8. Fry until golden brown; turn once while cooking with tongs.
  9. Remove from the pan and drain on paper towels.
  10. Sprinkle with powdered sugar or your favorite fruit.
