Ingredients

  • 5 lb. all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 4 tsp. salt
  • 4 tsp. soda
  • 4 cups Crisco shortening
  • 4 packages active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 gallon buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Stir together dry ingredients; cut in shortening.
  2. Dissolve yeast in warm water; add to buttermilk.
  3. Add milk to dry mixture and mix well.
  4. Roll out about 1/2-inch thick and cut in desired size.
  5. Freeze on cookie sheets.
  6. When frozen, place in plastic bags.
  7. Close securely and store in freezer.
  8. About 30 minutes before baking, dip in melted butter.
  9. Bake at 400° for 25 minutes. Take out desired amount to serve.
