Deer steaks marinated in red wine, vinegar, and herbs, then grilled to perfection and topped with sautéed mushrooms, creating a rich, flavorful dish ideal for special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 6 deer steaks
  • 1 1/2 cups dry red wine
  • 1/2 cup wine vinegar
  • 3/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon minced onion
  • 1 bay leaf, crushed
  • 1 can mushrooms
  • salt

Instructions

  1. Mix all the ingredients, except the deer steaks and mushrooms, in a large pot.
  2. Add the steaks to the marinade and refrigerate for 6 hours.
  3. If the meat is frozen, do not defrost; increase marinating time by at least 2 hours.
  4. Cook the steaks on a grill over hot coals for about 4 minutes on each side or until doneness, basting with the marinade several times.
  5. Heat the mushrooms in butter for a steak topping.
