Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 packages dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 6 to 8 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Mix together the shortening, sugar, and 1 cup boiling water, then allow to cool.
  2. When cooled, add 1 cup cold water and beaten eggs.
  3. Dissolve dry yeast in 1/4 cup lukewarm water and add to the mixture.
  4. Stir in 6 to 8 cups of flour and mix well to form a dough.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl and let it rise until doubled in size.
  6. Work the dough down and shape into rolls.
  7. Place the rolls on a baking sheet and let rise again until puffed up.
  8. Bake at 400°F until browned, about 15 minutes.
