Ingredients

  • 5 1/2 to 6 cups bread flour or regular flour
  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup cooking oil or shortening
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. Mix yeast, sugar, salt, oil, and water (the water must be very warm, 120° to 130°) in a large bowl.
  2. Add 3 cups of flour and mix with an electric mixer until well blended, about 3 minutes.
  3. Stir in additional flour and mix with a large spoon until dough pulls cleanly away from sides of the bowl.
