Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 3 eggs
  • salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 squares chocolate
  • 5 tablespoons shortening

Instructions

  1. Cream the sugar and shortening; add melted chocolate and a pinch of salt.
  2. Add whole eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Alternate adding flour and baking powder with milk and vanilla, beginning and ending with flour.
  4. Pour batter into a greased cake pan.
  5. Bake in a moderate oven at 350°F for about 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cake cool completely before icing.
  7. Ice with seven-minute icing with marshmallows added.
