Ingredients

  • 2 large cans whole green beans, drained
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 can pimentos, sliced
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds
  • 1 stick butter or oleo
  • 1/2 can sliced water chestnuts
  • 1 cup grated Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Saute chopped onion in butter or oleo until clear, not brown.
  2. Place one can of drained green beans in a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
  3. Layer sautéed onions, sliced pimentos, grated Cheddar cheese, sliced water chestnuts, and a few slivered almonds.
  4. Repeat with remaining green beans and rest of ingredients.
  5. Cover the casserole with cream of mushroom soup.
  6. Top with bread crumbs.
  7. Bake at 375°F for 30 minutes or until brown, covering the dish for the first 15 minutes.
