- Blend shortening and sugar until well combined.
- Cream the mixture thoroughly.
- Add eggs and beat well. Alternately add dry ingredients and milk to the mixture, mixing after each addition.
- Divide one-third of the batter into a small bowl.
- To the reserved batter, add melted chocolate and chopped walnuts.
- Spread this chocolate-walnut batter in a greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
- Arrange graham crackers over the batter in the pan.
- Add semi-sweet chocolate bits to the remaining batter.
- Drop spoonfuls of the remaining batter over the graham crackers and spread to cover the surface.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20 to 25 minutes.
- Cut into squares or bars while warm and serve.
