Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 square melted chocolate
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 (6 oz.) package semi-sweet chocolate bits
  • Graham crackers

Instructions

  1. Blend shortening and sugar until well combined.
  2. Cream the mixture thoroughly.
  3. Add eggs and beat well. Alternately add dry ingredients and milk to the mixture, mixing after each addition.
  4. Divide one-third of the batter into a small bowl.
  5. To the reserved batter, add melted chocolate and chopped walnuts.
  6. Spread this chocolate-walnut batter in a greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
  7. Arrange graham crackers over the batter in the pan.
  8. Add semi-sweet chocolate bits to the remaining batter.
  9. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining batter over the graham crackers and spread to cover the surface.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20 to 25 minutes.
  11. Cut into squares or bars while warm and serve.
