Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. fudge brownie mix
  • 3/4 c. chopped nuts
  • 2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 c. margarine or butter
  • 1 can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Prepare brownie mix as package directs. Stir in nuts.
  3. Spread into greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
  4. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until center is set.
  5. In heavy saucepan, over medium heat, melt chocolate chips and margarine with sweetened condensed milk and vanilla.
  6. Spread evenly over brownie layer. Cool.
  7. Chill for 2 hours or until topping is firm.
  8. Cut into bars. Store covered at room temperature.

Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider using dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet. If you're not a fan of nuts, you can omit them entirely or substitute with crushed cookies for added texture. Ensure the brownie mix is fully combined before spreading it into the pan for even baking. To avoid sticking, line the baking pan with parchment paper.

Serving Suggestions

These Double Fudge Brownie Bars are perfect on their own but can be served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent dessert. Pair them with a glass of milk or coffee for a delightful treat. You can also serve alongside Cheese Sticks for a fun dessert platter.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover brownie bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. If you'd like to keep them longer, refrigerate them, which can extend their freshness for up to two weeks. To enjoy chilled bars, simply cut and serve directly from the fridge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of chocolate chip?

Absolutely! You can substitute semi-sweet chocolate chips with milk chocolate or dark chocolate chips to suit your preference. Each type will offer a different flavor profile, so feel free to experiment until you find your favorite combination.

How do I know when the brownies are done baking?

Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of the brownies. If it comes out with a few moist crumbs, they're ready. If the toothpick has wet batter on it, continue baking for another 2-3 minutes, checking frequently to avoid overbaking.

Can I make these brownies gluten-free?

Yes! Simply use a gluten-free brownie mix as a substitute for the regular mix. Ensure that all other ingredients, including the chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk, are also gluten-free to keep the entire recipe suitable for gluten-sensitive individuals.
