Ingredients

  • 1 cup oleo (butter), at room temperature
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 can cherry pie filling

Instructions

  1. Cream butter, sugar, and vanilla together until smooth and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Combine dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt) and add to the creamed mixture.
  4. Spread all but 1 1/2 cups of batter evenly in a greased jelly roll pan.
  5. Spoon the can of cherry pie filling evenly over the batter.
  6. Dabble the remaining 1 1/2 cups of batter over the cherries.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool, then drizzle with thin powdered sugar frosting before serving.
