Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted margarine or oil
  • 1 2/3 cups flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Beat eggs until light.
  2. Add sugar, salt, melted margarine or oil, lemon extract, and nutmeg.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Combine flour and baking powder.
  5. Add alternately with milk to the egg mixture, mixing after each addition.
  6. Drop by 1/2 teaspoon into deep hot fat and fry for 2 1/2 minutes until brown.
  7. Ensure donuts rise to surface; keep them submerged to cook evenly.
  8. Drain on paper towels.
  9. Shake with sugar in a brown paper bag.
