Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed.
  2. Add eggs, beating well.
  3. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and nutmeg; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, mixing well.
  4. Stir in vanilla.
  5. Drop dough by tablespoons onto greased cookie sheets.
  6. Bake at 375° F for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
  7. Cool.
