Ingredients

  • 2 squares chocolate, grated or broken
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup cake flour, sifted
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sour milk
  • 3/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Place grated or broken chocolate and margarine in a bowl.
  2. Add boiling water and stir until chocolate melts.
  3. Add granulated sugar to the mixture.
  4. Using an electric mixer on medium speed, alternate adding the sifted cake flour and salt together, then the sour milk and soda together, mixing well each time.
  5. Add vanilla extract during the last part of mixing the sour milk and soda.
  6. Drop in the unbeaten egg and beat well until the batter is thin.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased 8-inch square pan.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35 to 40 minutes.
