- Place grated or broken chocolate and margarine in a bowl.
- Add boiling water and stir until chocolate melts.
- Add granulated sugar to the mixture.
- Using an electric mixer on medium speed, alternate adding the sifted cake flour and salt together, then the sour milk and soda together, mixing well each time.
- Add vanilla extract during the last part of mixing the sour milk and soda.
- Drop in the unbeaten egg and beat well until the batter is thin.
- Pour the batter into a greased 8-inch square pan.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35 to 40 minutes.
