Ingredients

  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 can evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup toasted bread crumbs
  • 1 head cabbage
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Clean and shred the cabbage.
  2. Saute chopped onion in butter in a pot.
  3. Add shredded cabbage and evaporated milk very slowly; cook until the cabbage is soft and the milk is thickened.
  4. Season with salt and pepper, then transfer to a shallow oven-proof dish.
  5. Sprinkle toasted bread crumbs over the top.
  6. Dot with small pieces of butter and broil for 3 to 5 minutes until golden.
