Ingredients

  • 6 whole eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups butter
  • 1 cup jam
  • 1 cup preserves
  • 1 pound raisins
  • 1 box dates
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 box figs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4-5 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Sift together flour, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, and baking powder.
  4. Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  5. Fold in jam, preserves, and chopped fruit (raisins, dates, figs).
  6. Pour batter into a prepared baking pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
