- In a small mixer bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups of the flour with the dry yeast.
- In a saucepan, heat milk, sugar, butter, salt, dill seed, and minced onion until warm, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat and cool if above 115°F.
- Add the warm mixture to the dry flour and yeast mixture.
- Add the egg to the mixture.
- Beat at low speed for 30 seconds, scraping the bowl.
- Beat for 3 minutes at high speed.
- By hand, stir in the remaining flour.
- Cover the dough and let rise until doubled, about 30 to 45 minutes.
- Stir down the dough.
- Spread evenly in a well-greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan or a large round casserole.
- Let rise until nearly doubled, about 30 minutes.
- Bake at 350°F for 25 to 30 minutes.
- Cover loosely with foil if the bread browns too quickly.
- Remove from the pan and cool.
- Slice and serve.
