Sweet and tangy holiday squares featuring a buttery crust, cherry filling, and a dusting of powdered sugar, perfect for festive gatherings and dessert tables.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter or oleo
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 can cherry or other pie filling

Instructions

  1. Gradually add sugar to butter in a large bowl and cream on medium speed until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. At low speed, add flour and lemon juice to the mixture.
  4. Pour batter into a greased jelly roll pan.
  5. Mark off 20 squares on the batter.
  6. Place a heaping teaspoonful of pie filling in the center of each square.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 45 to 50 minutes.
  8. Allow to cool, then sift confectioners' sugar on top.
  9. Cut into squares and serve.
