Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsifted flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix together all dry ingredients: flour, rolled oats, cream of tartar, salt, baking soda, and sugar.
  2. Cut in shortening using two knives, a pastry blender, or in a blender until the mixture is crumbly.
  3. Add milk to the dry ingredients and stir until a soft dough forms.
  4. Roll the dough out on a floured board to about 1/2 inch thickness.
  5. Cut the dough into triangles and place them on a greased cookie sheet.
  6. Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Serve warm with fruit spread or apple butter.
