- Mix together all dry ingredients: flour, rolled oats, cream of tartar, salt, baking soda, and sugar.
- Cut in shortening using two knives, a pastry blender, or in a blender until the mixture is crumbly.
- Add milk to the dry ingredients and stir until a soft dough forms.
- Roll the dough out on a floured board to about 1/2 inch thickness.
- Cut the dough into triangles and place them on a greased cookie sheet.
- Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve warm with fruit spread or apple butter.
