Ingredients

  • 1 (7 oz.) or 1/2 (1 lb.) pkg. vermicelli
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 (32 oz.) jar spaghetti sauce
  • 1 (4 oz.) can mushroom stems and pieces
  • 1 tsp. basil leaves
  • 1 c. (4 oz.) shredded Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef; pour off fat.
  3. Add chopped onion and cook, stirring until tender.
  4. Stir in spaghetti sauce, mushroom stems and pieces, salt, and basil leaves; simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Stir in the cooked vermicelli.
  6. Turn the mixture into a greased 2-quart shallow baking dish, 12 x 7 inches.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes, then top with shredded Cheddar cheese and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
  8. Refrigerate leftovers.
