- Combine yeast and warm milk to soften yeast, about 5 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, 1 cup milk, sugar, oil, salt, and egg.
- Add 1 cup of flour, stirring until smooth.
- Stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
- Place dough in a well-greased bowl.
- Turn dough to grease the top.
- Cover and let stand in a warm place for 15 minutes.
- Punch dough down; cover and let stand another 15 minutes in a warm draft-free place.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface; knead 3 or 4 times.
- Divide dough into 24 pieces; shape into balls.
- Dip each ball into melted butter and place in pans.
- Let rise for about 15 minutes or more in a warm place.
- Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
