Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup sweet milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, baking soda, and salt three times.
  2. Cream butter, gradually adding sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition.
  4. Alternately add sifted dry ingredients and sweet milk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  5. Pour batter into a greased tube pan.
  6. Bake in a moderate oven at 350°F (175°C) for 55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
